Xiaoxigang Wetland Park, Wuxi

Developer WEDZ Development Center Landscape Design Guangzhou S.P.I Design Co., Ltd. Project Location Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China Design Time 2022

Located just a 10-minute drive from the municipal government and nestled beside Taihu Lake, Xiaoxigang sits near Gonghuwan Wetland Park. On the map, it resembles the open mouth of a fish. Covering an area of 18.4 hectares, it serves as our urban innovation testing ground.

We have integrated seven LID (Low Impact Development) facilities to create a functional LID garden, achieving a 68% reduction in rainwater pollution and managing rainstorms with a once-in-50-year intensity in Wuxi. Through carefully designed planting strategies, we've created a rich mosaic of habitats that support birds, small mammals, and reptiles—fostering a harmonious coexistence between people and nature along the shores of Taihu Lake. Extending the popular rainbow running track along the lake, we've also built multifunctional sports facilities and interactive public spaces, setting a benchmark for vibrant park life. The park features a 10,000-square-meter civic theater and connects to a 5-kilometer lakeside rainbow runway.

Moreover, we've restored 39,732 square meters of wetland habitat and reshaped 1,050 meters of resilient ecological shoreline. Acting as an urban ecological sponge, the park can retain up to 5,344 cubic meters of rainwater, while offering vital habitat for small urban wildlife.
