Hello! 树先生The project is located in Pukou District, Nanjing, with a landscape area of 6,000 square meters and a landscape cost of RMB 1,000 per square meter. From the beginning, the site’s preserved goldenrain trees and camphor trees stood out for their natural beauty. As such, the design approach was rooted in preserving the site's original ecology and intervening with humility—adapting to the site's natural conditions rather than imposing upon them.
We believe that every site has its own spirit. To protect this spirit, it is essential to avoid disruption and instead build a respectful relationship between people, the land, and nature. This idea became the core of our design philosophy.
The first and most critical decision was to preserve the existing trees. These trees naturally defined the framework for the landscape design. Special attention was given to elevation: raised water features were designed to surround the original goldenrain trees, forming “tree wells” that embrace the trunks without disturbing the roots. The structural system was carefully engineered to avoid the root zones entirely, with the water surface supported by a suspended structure—protecting the native vegetation while enhancing the site’s atmosphere.
By preserving the memory of the original site and allowing the goldenrain and camphor trees to "tell" their stories, a unique spirit has emerged—one that invites visitors to connect with the land, its past, and the quiet resilience of nature.
