Jing'an Palace, Huizhou
When we first arrived at the site, we were struck by its quiet restraint—enveloped in the dense shade of mature trees, it seemed naturally distanced from the nearby urban bustle. This atmosphere of tranquility and seclusion offered the perfect interpretation of “Jing'an Palace.”
The project comprises two key components: an 1,800㎡ municipal park located outside the property line, and a 4,800㎡ demonstration area within. The latter is further segmented into several spaces, defined by the spatial arrangement of the sales office and a noticeable elevation difference between the front and rear zones.
Our challenge was to discover an internal logic that could harmonize the contrasting qualities of extroverted and introverted spaces, and to integrate the fragmented areas into a unified spatial narrative. Rather than viewing the park and demonstration area as isolated entities, we used human movement as a connective thread—leveraging user experience to shape continuity and cohesion.
Shaded by dense foliage, the entrance park appeared quiet and mysterious—yet paradoxically detached from the dynamic rhythm of the growing city. We envisioned it not only as a prologue to Jing'an Palace, but also as a solemn tribute to the city's cultural memory. As an urban open space, the park will serve residents in the future, its identity preserved through its civic function and atmosphere.
Beyond daily functionality, spaces convey a deeper, more intuitive meaning. To ensure a cohesive experience between the park and the demonstration area, we employed a linear design language that ties the sequence of spaces together. The overarching theme—“Living in a Forest”—brings a sense of warmth and immersion into nature, embodying the essence of Jing'an Palace.
Through thoughtful transitions and material contrasts, we interpreted the dialectic relationship between space and time. In doing so, we created a dialogue between nature and the city, public and private, motion and stillness—transforming the site into a contemplative, living environment that resonates with cultural depth and spatial clarity.
