LUXE Island
The project is located in Jiangdong New District, Haikou, Hainan, with a landscape area of approximately 42,000 square meters. The main building is an earth-covered art gallery, and the overall aesthetic follows a modern, minimalist artistic tone.
The landscape design draws inspiration from Hainan's local culture, native plant palette, and surrounding ecological resources. In harmony with the architectural style, it proposes a composite modern art garden defined by fluid curves and layered functionality.
From plan to elevation, the spatial design is unified by flowing white streamer-like forms. In the front court and central atrium, a lush palette of tropical vegetation—including rain trees, plantains, ferns, and native mosses—blends with a misty forest effect to create a distinctive tropical rainforest ambiance.
Scattered black gravel and white terrazzo ground materials complement the natural setting, while dappled sunlight filters through dense foliage, casting a romantic, dreamlike veil over the space—transforming it into a living canvas.
At the beginning of the design process, a key challenge lay in the site’s unique positioning: the main entrance was not aligned with the road frontage. This prompted a key question—how to guide both foot traffic and visual flow into the core of the space? How could the landscape better integrate with both architecture and interior?
We explored a variety of spatial design strategies and languages for transformation and continuity, ultimately choosing the motif of white streamers. From the ceremonial entrance to the atrium rainforest, and finally to the serene ecological water garden at the rear, the streamers form a continuous spatial narrative. Modern art and ecological nature intertwine, enriching each other throughout the experience.
