Chinese Mansion, Changzhou
The project is located in Changzhou, adjacent to the renowned Zhongwu Hotel—an iconic symbol of Chinese-style state hospitality. With a site area of 7,300 square meters, the design continues the classical Chinese aesthetic of the Zhongwu Hotel, contributing to a cohesive and culturally rich urban atmosphere.
The project envisions a poetic and serene lifestyle, offering a bespoke, high-end residential experience infused with cultural refinement. It evokes the timeless charm of retreating into nature—where mountains and water shelter the soul from the noise of the world, awakening a yearning for peaceful mountain living. As the ancient Chinese saying goes, “Within a poem lies a painting, and within a painting, a poem,” the design captures the understated luxury and literary elegance inspired by Song Dynasty ideals.
Drawing from Fan Zhongyan’s famed Record of Yueyang Tower from the Northern Song Dynasty—depicting a vast, open lake under a thousand miles of moonlight—the designer employs traditional oriental gardening techniques to reimagine the majestic vision of “heaven and earth as one, with a thousand hectares of blue.” Six unique landscape scenes—including Hidden Forest, Golden Heart, Yueyang Tower, Distant Mountains, and Leisure Pavilion—are crafted to reflect the natural beauty and cultural depth described in the literary classic. These poetic elements harmonize nature, site characteristics, and spatial relationships, delivering a deeply emotive and rare experience of natural poetry in the modern city.
Design Challenge: To express rich cultural storytelling and a refined living experience within a limited construction budget.
Solution: Economical yet timeless materials were carefully selected, with focus placed on spatial arrangement and emotional resonance. Modern techniques are skillfully paired with traditional moods to evoke the charm of life as seen in classical poetry and painting.
Client Value: The project helped the client stand out in a competitive real estate market by offering a one-of-a-kind, Chinese-style luxury residence that conveys both cultural uniqueness and contemporary comfort. It is currently the only high-end Chinese-style development in the Changzhou market.
Sustainability: The show area was built with a one-time construction approach—requiring no demolition or modifications. All materials used are permanent and cost-effective, ensuring both economic and environmental sustainability.
